Synopsis: Filmed theatre-adaptation of Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov, which centres on a landed Russian family around the turn of the century. A cast of actors gathers in a dilapidated Manhattan theatre to rehearse David Mamet's adaptation of Chekhov's play "Uncle Vanya" for its director André Gregory. In their street clothes and sitting round a table, the actors slip unnoticeably into their roles...
